Give me a website or something. I want one for about 1000 to 2000.Where can I find cheap roping horses for sale?
Go to any auction and you can pick a nice one up for less than $500.
At many auctions, you have 3 days to return the horse if it isn't as good as they said. At some, you even have a chance to ride the horse before you bid on it!
Auctions get a bad reputation for selling lame horses, and while a lot of them are lame/drugged, if you know what to look out for you can find some fantastic horses there!Where can I find cheap roping horses for sale?
CL. However for that price, you'll probably get an older rope horse, that is a couple steps slower than it used to be. If you're a beginner and gonna do junior rodeo or maybe ranch roping you might be able to find some some, but I wouldn't take anything like that to jackpots and plan on being competitive. You're usually paying for quality when it comes to rope horses. If you're buying a younger horse on a website and its for cheap, you better know how to train it or have extra money to get it down. Just because it has roped in a branding pen or have been in the box doesn't mean its finished or anything near. If you're looking for a nice quality, finished, competitive, rope horse you should wait until you save up some more money.
Also, the older rope horses might have arthritis in their knees and shoulders. Or something like that. You gotta know you get what you pay for.
I would NOT trust horses at auctions. Don't even waste your time. You're paying for crap. A lot of people in my area, including myself, send dangerous horses to auctions because they have no use. Its a bad idea.
There will probably be good roping horses for sale somewhere near you.
But check these sites:
http://www.dreamhorse.com
http://www.horseville.com
http://www.ozarkshorseexchange.com (if you're in the missouri-kansas-arkansas area.
http://www.equine.com
http://www.equinenow.com
http://www.horsetopia.com
http://www.equinehits.com
There is probably ads in the classifieds area of a local newspaper.
You could also check auctions - you could get a nice roping horse for less than 1000 dollars easily.
Hope I helped!
You want a horse that's got a GREAT foundation and who's put in YEARS of training as a roping horse (it takes about 10 YEARS for a horse to be truly a good roping horse...this info from a cowboy/roper who does nothing but rope and train horses for roping and competes)
And you want all that for $1,000-$2,000??? NOT REALISTIC, dude.
A horse that's proven to be a good roping horse will cost you at least $5,000 and up. MAYBE you might find someone who's hard up to sell their roping horse for $4,000. But less? No way. Not unless there's something seriously wrong with that horse.
I had a client who roped who was selling his horse for $7,000. Another horse for $12,000.
If you go to an auction....a GOOD auction where people sell their ranch ropers....you can find one for around $5,000.
If you go to a CHEAP auction (lots more of those) where you might get a doped up horse and get it home to find out it's not even trained in the basics (another client who wanted to rope found this out the hard way)....
FACT: people who train their horses to rope put in a lot of hours, weeks, months, years into their horses. they're not going to sell their hard work for peanuts.
A barely broke horse will go for $1,000. A well broke horse (with no roping training or one who just got started in roping) might go for $2,000 and up.
But you're not going to find a horse proven to be a good roper for that kind of money. Not even in this ecomony.
Well...you MIGHT get lucky at a horse rescue. People do get rid of their horses because of money problems....and you might luck out....but don't hold your breath.
Auctions, but you take your life in your hands...
They may act calm and broke and you get them home and they are bonkers...
I've seen lots of roping horses on CL for pretty cheap...
Put the word out amoungst your local ropers and I'm sure someone has heard of one somewhere...
But you really get what you pay for...
I happened upon my mare that is a heeling horse on Equinehits...
Auctions are a good place i watched a 8 time world champion head heel and calf roping stud black and white sell for 1300 at the shawnee sell in oklahoma
There is tons of cheap roping horses for sale, but you wont find a good roping horse for cheap! Good roping horses make money, hence their value goes up! Hope this helps!
