Thanks! I just really want a horse with feathers! lolHorse Experts: two links of horses for sale, which one is better for a green rider?
I'm not and expert but I still say: Neither.
If you were my sister I'd say no way. Keep Looking. :)Horse Experts: two links of horses for sale, which one is better for a green rider?
Are you rich? Because I'm going to tell you right now, Gypsy MVP is going to cost you both arms, and both legs.
Both are four, and I recommend much older for green riders. At least eight, because a young horse is a young horse. They can be amazingly smart, with a wonderful disposition, but they'll still show that age, and inexperience every once and a while.
Also, are you sure that picking a horse solely based on the hair on their legs is a good idea? You should pick a breed, or several breeds that fit what you want to do, and then find a good individual horse that suites you. Hell, it can even be grade, there are plenty of great grade horses out there.
Before buying your first horse, you need to go see them in person and have yourself and your trainer or an experienced rider try out the horse. If you're absoulutely going to decide between these two, I would get the Dale. However, you really should open up to other breeds, especially since you are green, and then some day in the future when you are more experienced you can buy yourself a Gypsy Vanner, Dale Pony or even a Friesian. But for now, I think you should be looking at Quarter Horses, Paints. or even some cross-breeds. I have been riding my whole life (I';m 20) and I love Friesians, but these kind of horses are high maitnence, especially with the feathers. I am looking for Quarter Horses at the moment, and they are wonderful horses. Oh, and be sure to get a horse that's over the age of at least 6. GOOD LUCK!!!
If you want feathers get a bird. If you want a horse then details like that are at the bottom of your list. It is like saying you will only marry someone who has red hair - it would be nice, but not a great way to go about choosing your life partner.
I would honestly say you are not ready to own yet - your comment about the Vanner being 15hh and therefore easier to ride is nonsense and shows a lack of knowledge. Now we all started at that point so I am not saying never buy, but do spend some more time learning and riding different kinds of horses. Also what discipline would you like? A dales pony could be used as trail riding or pony club (if you are young) and the cart horse for pulling carts and trails and possibly breed shows, but you may want something that gives you a little more scope. You also do not want a green horse....it is a recipe for disaster, disappointment and tragedy. For a first horse I would say 10+.
okay first if you are a green rider you shouldn't get a horse yet. you need more experiance with horses. take lessons for a couple years and try leasing a horse for a bit.
second FOUR YEARS OLD! i wouldn't buy a 4 year old and i've been riding for 6 years. when you get a horse get an older one
ok im not trying to be mean or anything, its just the truth, if you got either of those horses odds are you would get a ruined horse and your confidence would downfall and either or both of you could easily get hurt so get more experiance first and get an older horse when you are ready
I would say that neither of them are ideal for a green rider. I would suggest a horse that is much older with more experience.
Remember that your first horse has to be compatible not only with your goals but also your skill level, don't just look at a horse because it has feathers.
They are both a little young for a first horse, but if I were to pick between the two I'd go with the Dale pony. Alot less horse to handle and something to have fun on! Gypsies are beautiful, but this one's only five, so he still has some calming down to do, and more things to learn and experience. I'd get a well broke 9+ yr. old gelding as a first horse =)
Green plus green equals black and blue. So unless you enjoy being black and blue, I'd pick out an older horse.
What about him? http://www.gypsymvp.com/horses/sean/sean鈥?/a>
FYI - Feathers are awfully annoying to take care of. They get dirty and tangled and if you don't keep them clean, the horse can get all sorts of skin conditions that are hard to discover because of the feathers covering them up.
hey,
lucky you getting a new horse! buying a horse is great but you need to take your time and dont rush into anything! it took me 3-4 months to find myself a horse fro showjumping. if you would rather a horse with feather then look for one with feather!! u want to be happy with your buy!! i really wanted a grey horse so i just kept looking for the perfect one but i did consider the potential of the horse before the colour! u need to get something that will bring you on and that you can have fun on!! its hard to see a horse for sale that is really really nice and u fall in love with them but deep down u know he doesnt suit! it might be a little better to get something a small bit older!! that way he'l know what hes doing and he will bring u on instead of u bringing him along! but keep looking until you find your dream horse!!! best of luck!! (dont take some of these comments too seriously!!) xx
for your first horse look for something older than 4, stick with the cobbynes but you can find really ploddy horses that will be great for you
they both seem to young for a inexperienced rider and not seeing the cob ridden its hard to say.
Sigh*
Don't buy a horse for it's feathers. If you find a horse that fits you, a green rider, (I.e not FOUR years old) that has feathers, excellent. If not, oh well. Hopefully you will still like the rest of the horse.
Easier to ride? I think not. Just closer to the ground than your average horse for when he bucks you off. And the Dales is shorter.
I like that Dales pony...
I guess because of one of two reasons.
One he looks like my horse ....
second... he looks like he handles well. in one clip it is clear that she has him troting on the diagonal from her leg movments and another where is picks up a canter from walk with a slight trot beat between transitions
third because he is only 4 so you would have a nice long time to get to know each other
the gypsy is stunning , but i didn't see any discription on what he was trained in just photos.
but also remember white horses get SOOOOOOOOOO dirty and stained and they are more prone to cancer.
