Registered horses for sale and the owner has died. How is the transfer handled?

I looked at a couple registered paints last weekend and the guy was saying these were his brother's horses and he died in August. I wasn't very impressed with the horses, and didn't get any. So I was just wondering when horses are in a deceased person's name, how does this work?

The executor of the estate has the power to sell the horses. Being registered, the executor and/or the new owner contact the Registry to obtain papers to change ownership on new registration for the horse.Registered horses for sale and the owner has died. How is the transfer handled?
I would venture a guess that the horses belong to the estate, or whomever inherited the brother's property.
The executor of the estate receives death certificates that they file with any necessary paperwork to complete the decedant's affairs. IOW, the executor has the legal authority to contact the breed registry and act in place of the registered owner.
