Horse for sale for $101. Do they mean $101,000?

I am looking at horses to buy and one of them is priced at $101. Now this horse is way to impressive to be $101, but the horse is DEFINITELY NOT impressive enough to be selling for 101,000. So what does $101 mean?Horse for sale for $101. Do they mean $101,000?
its probably a private ad. they just put that cause the website makes you list a price. they expect you to call and ask about the price 'cause they dont want to list something like 20,000 dollars online.

edit: meagan- ha, i think we had some trolls stroll on through, cause every single one of us has 2 thumbs down and 1 thumb up haha.Horse for sale for $101. Do they mean $101,000?
People do that. They will also put $1 when they want you to contact them for the price.

When I first started my ';hobby'; looking at horses for sale. I was always confused when you would see this horse easily worth 100k and then they said $101. I started this when I was like 12 so I would contact the people all excited thinking I was going to be able to buy this amazing horse with my savings money but they would always reply saying something ';no his price is 85k'; or something. They just want you to contact them for the price. Some sites that allow you to advertise your horse for sale make you put in a price and won't let you say ';contact for price'; so they pick the common $1 or $101.
If it's on a site like warmblood-for-sale.com that has a lot of high quality horses, often the owner will put that to mean that you must inquire for the price. It may mean that they are accepting offers rather than setting a price or that the price is so high that they don't want to immediately set off potential buyers. You'd have to contact the owner to find out the real price.

If the ad looks fishy, like the picture just seems too pretty, something that would fit in a calendar or a magazine then it might be a scam. A high priced horse should at least have its pedigree viewable and the description of the horse is generally rather lengthy. If things like the color and height are incorrect, the horse doesn't look exactly the same in all the pictures, it's performing in an odd discipline for its breed, it's probably fake.
I have not seen this add, but a horse selling for $101 is probably not a good horse. If this horse is impressive, it could mean that the horse is injured or has a bad temperament, also some sellers say the horse is selling for that price and when you come and look it, fall in love with it then they say ';Oh no! Must have been a typo the horse is actually...'; Don't get scammed, it sucks!
No it is a scam.

Either that or else they actually mean super super expensive beyond belief so they just thought they would be clever and put that so more people would look at it.

And then I guess some how they planned to eventually break the news to them. Like a private treaty ad

Sounds like a waste of time to me.

Edit---

Foxhunter1949, that is a very cool law. I wish it was in the U.S.

And why do I have two thumbs down? Am I wrong? I wish people that thumbs other people down would just answer the question so they can ';enlighten'; us wrong folks
sometimes sellers put a random price like that or it could just be $1 or $10 cause you have to post the ad with a number price when they would rather talk about a price instead of having a set price

meagan k: everyone has thumbs down and almost all of our answers are the same kinda thing, i guess we're all wrong then :/ and yeah i think that would be a great law
In the UK there is a law that says if a price is advertised then that is the price!

Amazon lost out because it advertised DVDs for a very low price by mistake, and they had to sell them for that amount.

Wouldn't it be great if they advertised for a low price and had to sell it for that? LOL
Beware of scams. equinenow has a few adds for Gypsy Vanners and Friesians for ridiculously low prices like $100 or $200. They are just scams to get information from you.
